Waterkeepers Iraq-Kurdistan Leads Cleanup in Chapachnara: 70 Bags of Waste Removed to Protect Nature25/11/2024 During the project “Empowering Kurdistan for Waterway Conservation and Environmental Advocacy” a cleaning campaign was conducted in Chapachnara near Delezha village by Waterkeeper Iraq-Kurdistan along with about 50 volunteers. About 70 bags of garbage were collected and in addition to giving a beautiful appearance to the area, we were able to spread awareness and show our responsibility towards the environment, animals, and birds. Waterkeepers Iraq - Kurdistan continues its search and inspections and in the continuation of visiting different parts of Kurdistan and the region, we visited the town of Darbandikhan and its surroundings. These areas are severely threatened by environmental and human factors. The town's sewage and garbage are discharged directly into the streams and dams, leading to extreme pollution that impacts humans and all living organisms in the region. A local resident mentioned that he has visited Dewana Dam multiple times for fishing, but all the fish had worms in their stomachs, making them inedible. Additionally, the water is so contaminated that swimming is not an option.Waterkeepers Iraq-Kurdistan is thrilled to announce the success of the first paddleboard competition at Dukan Lake! This eco-friendly event highlights our commitment to promoting sustainable sports that protect our environment. Paddleboarding, unlike motorized water sports, minimizes pollution and fosters a deeper connection with nature.Alongside us, many organizations and activists supported this event, emphasizing the importance of environmentally friendly activities in Iraq. By choosing paddleboarding, we reduce harmful emissions and promote a healthier lifestyle. |
